A vasectomy is performed by interrupting the sperms travel through the Vas Deferens tube in the scrotum. In the past, this has been done by making two small incisions on each scrotum with a scalpel. With a no scalpel vasectomy, only one tiny incision (only a few millimetres in length) is made in a more central location on the scrotum. The main difference between a traditional vasectomy procedure and a no scalpel vasectomy procedure is in the use of one tiny incision vs two larger incisions. With the use of anesthesia the procedure is virtually painless.
The results from this small change in operation are less bleeding and faster recovery times, as no sutures are needed, allowing the incision to heal on its own; while being just as effective. Complication rates with this method are also significantly lower. To top it off, the anesthetic used for the procedure can be delivered without the use of a needle.
A referral from a doctor is requested for the procedure. If you are unable to obtain a referral from your primary care provider, please send us a message through our Contact page.
To be honest, there will be minimal pain and discomfort. You may experience aching or soreness for a few days after the procedure, but that is the extent of it. When doing a procedure on such a sensitive area of the body it’s natural to assume a great deal of pain will go along with it; that just isn’t the case with no needle, no scalpel vasectomies!
For the next few days after the procedure, we recommend not doing excessive physical activity and to wear a jock support. Over the counter pain medication may be taken to help alleviate any discomfort.
